Q. I'm a regular customer. Why did you change your hours?
A. We are operating on the same schedule we have for months. We simply revised how the hours are phrased to limit confusion for customers picking up pottery. If you come to paint, you can stay 1 hour past the official close time to finish up your work.
Q. Do we need a reservation?
A. We accept reservations for groups of 6 or more. For
parties smaller than that, or individuals, we seat anytime on a first come,
first serve basis. Birthday parties, adult groups, corporate functions, and
scout troops all require reservations.
Q. Where are you all located?
A. We’re located on Broad Ripple Avenue, between
Brother’s bar and the Union Jack's.
Q. How much
does it cost?
A. Not a lot, and unlike going to the movies or the
amusement park, afterwards you'll have something that you'll cherish the rest
of your life. Studio time is $6 for children and $8 for adults plus the cost of
the piece. The prices of the pieces range from $4 to $50. You can find many
wonderful items in the $12-$20 range.
Q. Do I need to be an artist?
A. No, absolutely not! We have tons of sponges, stencils, stamps and technique
books to help you create your piece. The studio is also always filled with lots
of finished pieces to inspire you.
Q. How long does it take to paint a piece?
A. The paint time for an adult is usually 1 or 2 hours, children usually paint
in 30 minutes to an hour. Of course, this can vary depending on the size of the piece
and the level of detail. If you do not finish your piece in one sitting we will
gladly store your piece in our work-in-progress area for 30 days. You will be
charged ½ of studio time each time you work on it. Pieces will be ready to pick
up 1 week after they are finished.
Q. Do ceramics and ceramic glazes contain lead?
A. Yes, there are still some ceramic glazes out there that contain small
amounts of lead. We, however, are proud to say that all of our paints &
glazes at Kiln Creations are completely non-toxic and lead free.
Q. Are pieces dishwasher and/or microwave safe?
A. Your pieces are a hand painted work of art and sometimes irreplaceable (kid
handprints) so we do not recommend putting them in the dishwasher or microwave.
Q. I live out of town, can you ship finished pottery?
A. Unfortunately, the pottery pieces do take a week for us to glaze and fire.
We can arrange for your pottery to be shipped to you when they are finished.
The shipping charge starts at $12 per address and usually arrive in about 2
weeks.
Q. When will my pieces be ready?
A. Your pieces will be glazed, fired and ready in a week. During holiday
periods we try to complete your project as soon as possible, but due to the
hectic season, it may take up to 10 days. We encourage you to pick up your
creations in a timely fashion. Half Baked Pottery will not be responsible for
broken or lost items which remain after 4 weeks after completion.
Q. Do you rush firing?
A. Yes, we can fire items and have them ready in 3 days. Half Baked Pottery
will add a surcharge of $10.00 per piece for this service.
Q. Can I eat and drink from the plates, bowls, mugs, and cups that I painted?
A. Yes, Half Baked Pottery's glazes are all lead free and nontoxic.
Q. Is this activity appropriate for small children?
A. Yes, it is indeed! Have your little ones express themselves. Use of three
colors is plenty. Grandparents will love this early expression on creativity.
Q. Can I bring my own food and drink into the
studio as refreshment while I or my group paints?
A. You bet! In fact, for many of our bridal and baby showers we encourage our
clients to bring in their own Hor's d'ouvres and refreshments.
